The Beach Retrat, Libreville (Gabón)
En el corazón de esta fusión entre vegetación exuberante, arena litoral y las aguas del océano Atlántico, se ha concebido un exclusivo Beach Retreat, un alojamiento de retiro diseñado para ofrecer una experiencia íntima, serena y profundamente conectada con el entorno natural.
El diseño apuesta por una arquitectura serena y atemporal, basada en sistemas constructivos honestos y legibles, que generan espacios abiertos, permeables y profundamente vinculados al entorno. La implantación del edificio en el terreno se realiza de forma respetuosa y casi orgánica, acompañando la topografía y reforzando la transición entre el bosque tropical y la playa. Volúmenes bajos, cubiertas generosas y elementos de sombra cuidadosamente dispuestos permiten que el conjunto se funda con el paisaje, evitando gestos impositivos y priorizando una integración natural, donde la arquitectura no compite con el lugar, sino que lo potencia y lo enmarca, convirtiéndose en una extensión coherente y armónica del propio territorio.
El proyecto contempla el diseño de un complejo turístico compuesto por dos bungalows, cada uno de ellos con tres suites. El programa se completa con una amplia zona de estar tipo lounge, un espacio de mezzanine y un área de comedor exterior bajo pérgola, concebida como lugar de encuentro y contemplación. Asimismo, el conjunto incorpora diversos espacios exteriores destinados al descanso y al disfrute del entorno, entre los que destacan la piscina, áreas chill out y zonas de estancia al aire libre. La arquitectura se expresa a través de una cuidada composición de texturas naturales, donde la madera, las fibras vegetales y los acabados cálidos dialogan con la luz, la brisa marina y el paisaje circundante.
De forma complementaria, el complejo dispone de un área de cocina, espacios de servicio y zonas técnicas específicamente diseñadas para garantizar el correcto funcionamiento y mantenimiento de las instalaciones, preservando en todo momento la calidad de la experiencia del huésped y la discreción operativa del conjunto.
Libreville boasts kilometers of unspoiled coastline. Walking along the shoreline from the city towards Cape Esterias, halfway along the route one encounters a place rich in sensations, where the sandy beach naturally merges with the tropical forest. Palm trees and other native tree species extend all the way to the water’s edge, shaping a landscape of remarkable strength and authenticity.
At the heart of this convergence between lush vegetation, coastal sands, and the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, an exclusive Beach Retreat has been conceived—an intimate sanctuary designed to offer a serene experience, deeply connected to its natural surroundings.
The project comprises the design of a resort complex made up of two bungalows, each containing three suites. The program is complemented by a generous lounge area, a mezzanine space, and an outdoor dining area beneath a pergola, conceived as a place for gathering and contemplation. In addition, the complex incorporates a variety of outdoor spaces dedicated to relaxation and enjoyment of the setting, including a swimming pool, chill-out areas, and open-air living spaces.
The architecture is articulated through a carefully curated composition of natural textures, where timber, plant-based fibers, and warm finishes engage in dialogue with light, sea breezes, and the surrounding landscape. The design embraces a serene and timeless architectural language, grounded in honest and legible construction systems that give rise to open, permeable spaces with a strong connection to the environment. The building is set into the terrain in a respectful and almost organic manner, following the natural topography and reinforcing the transition between the tropical forest and the beach. Low-lying volumes, generous roof overhangs, and thoughtfully arranged shading elements allow the complex to blend seamlessly into the landscape, avoiding imposing gestures and prioritizing natural integration. In this way, the architecture does not compete with the site, but rather enhances and frames it, becoming a coherent and harmonious extension of the territory itself.
Complementing the main program, the complex includes a kitchen area, service spaces, and dedicated technical zones, specifically designed to ensure the efficient operation and maintenance of the facilities, while consistently preserving the quality of the guest experience and the discreet functioning of the retreat.
